Baseball Records 28 hits in Split at Graceland

The Culver-Stockton baseball team collected 28 hits in Saturday's doubleheader at Graceland University as the two teams split a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader at Chase Stadium in Lamoni, Iowa.

The Wildcats registered 15 hits in a 16-8 victory in the first game, and 13 hits in a 9-8 loss in the nightcap. Graceland also collected 28 hits in the two games.

In the opener, Wyatt Wright went 4-for-5 with a two-run homer, a two-run double and five runs batted in to lead the Wildcat offense. 

Harry Oden was 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Brandon Diaz Valentin and Ethan Weber each collected two hits and had a run batted in. Jeremiah Morris added a two-run homer.

Isaiah Naylor earned the victory on the bump, hurling six innings and allowing 11 hits. He lo allowed five runs (three earned), walked one and struck out seven. Ryan Jung pitched the final inning and allowed three runs on four hits while striking out one.

In the nightcap, C-SC overcame a 7-3 deficit by scoring two runs in th fifth and three more in the sixth to take an 8-7 lead. However, the Yellowjackets scored two in the bottom of the sixth to claim the victory.

Weber was 3-for-4 with four runs batted in, including a bit two-run single in the fifth inning to lead the Wildcats. Morris was 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in the sixth inning, and three runs scored.

General Schofield, Jack Linenfelser and Yohander Ubiera all collected two hits for the Wildcats. 

The Wildcats and Yellowjackets are slated to conclude their four-game series Sunday with another doubleheader at Chase Stadium. The first game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
