Clarke Hands Wildcats Two Losses in Makeup Twinbill
The Culver-Stockton baseball team made up a doubleheader with Clarke University Tuesday afternoon in Peosta, Iowa. Originally scheduled for April 4, the Pride swept the Wildcats and took three out of four from the original series.
Clarke scored nine runs in the first two innings en route to a 17-1 victory in game one. The Pride scored in the first four innings of game two to defeat the Wildcats 9-4 in six innings. The game was called in the top of the seventh due to lightening.
C-SC was limited to four hits in the opener. The Wildcats scored their only run in the fourth inning when Wyatt Wright singled to centerfield to score Harry Oden.
In the nightcap, the Wildcats collected seven hits overall with Cooper Kiel doing most of the damage. Kiel hit a two run homer in the second inning and a solo home run in the fifth inning to account for three of the four C-SC runs. Oden delivered a RBI single in the fifth inning to score Dallas Slayton for the Wildcats' fourth run.
Slayton and Kiel finished with two hits each to lead the offense. Brandon Diaz Valentin and Jack Linenfelser each walked twice in the game.
The Wildcats are scheduled to play a non-conference three-game series at Saint Ambrose University this Friday and Saturday, April 17-18. The series begins with a single game Friday night starting at 5 p.m. in Davenport, Iowa.
