Schofield, Oden Powers Wildcats to Sweep of Saint Ambrose

Harry Oden hit a 3-run homer in the 10th inning of the first game of a doubleheader to propel the Culver-Stockton baseball team to an 11-10 victory, and General Schofield drilled a three-run homer in the nightcap to help the Wildcats earn its first sweep of the season with an 11-5 victory over Saint Ambrose University Saturday afternoon at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, Iowa.

In the opener, C-SC rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 4-4 and send the game to extra innings.

Neither team scored in the eighth inning before the Wildcats got a three-run homer from Schofield following a RBI single by Jack Linenfelser in the top of the ninth to make the score 8-4.

Saint Ambrose rallied for four runs in the bottom of the inning; however, C-SC answered with Oden's three-run homer in the 10th inning. The Bees plated two runs in the bottom of the inning but fell a run short as C-SC snapped a four-game losing streak.

Oden and Schofield each finished the game with two hits while Oden recorded five runs batted in and Schofield had three RBI. Branden Diaz Valentin and Linenfelser both collected three hits in the game to lead the 16-hit attack. Wyatt Wright and Yohander Ubiera had two hits each.

In the nightcap, Schofield's three-run blast highlighted a seven-run fourth inning as C-SC extended their lead from 3-1 to 10-1. Cooper Kiel followed Schofield's homer with a solo home run. 

Jeremiah Morris matched Schofield with three runs batted in in the game. Morris collected two hits, including a double. Oden added two more RBIs to give him seven runs batted in on the day. 

Jared Marty  picked up the victory in the nightcap, hurling five innings in relief of starter Ryan Jung. Marty scattered seven. Hits, allowed four runs. walked one and struck out four.

The Wildcats are scheduled to play a makeup doubleheader with Peru State on Monday, April 20, at Nichols Field in Canton. The first game is slated for 1 p.m.
