Baseball Splits Heart Doubleheader with Peru State
The Culver-Stockton College baseball team split a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader with Peru State College Monday afternoon at Nichols Field.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first game and held on for an 11-8 victory. In the nightcap, C-SC wasn't as lucky as the Bobcats rallied from a 5-1 deficit and defeated the Wildcats 8-7 in walk off fashion.
In game one, Harry Oden went 3-for-3 with a walk, three runs scored and three runs batted in. Jeremiah Morris added two hits, including a two-run homer, and four runs batted in, while Jack Linenfelser collected three hits and scored three runs to lead the offense. General Schofield added a three-run hime run in the first inning.
Isaiah Naylor pitched the first four innings, scattering seven hits and allowing five runs, while walking three and striking out eight. Naylor was relieved by Ethan Stephenson with the bases loaded and none out in the fifth and he was able to escape any damage to preserve the lead.
After Stephenson allowed three runs in the sixth, Cole Peterson was summoned and got the final out of the inning to preserve the 11-8 lead.
The Bobcats recorded a pair of singles in the seventh inning to bring the tying run to the plate; however Peterson was able to close the door without any runs scoring to earn the save.
The second game was much like the first with the Wildcats grabbing a 5-3 lead after four innings. Both teams scored two runs in the fifth inning to up the total to 7-5, and the Bobcats plated a run in the sixth and two in the seventh to earn the split.
Wyatt Wright paced the Wildcat offense with three hits and three runs batted in, while Ethan Where collected two hits in the game to give hime four hits on the day. Cooper Kiel reached base three times with a double and two walks.
C-SC is scheduled to play a non-conference game against sixth-ranked Missouri Baptist University on Tuesday, April 21, at Schools Field. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
