Pitching Issues, Defensive Breakdowns Lead to Shutout Loss to Missouri Baptist
A pair of five-run innings were enough for sixth-ranked Missouri Baptist University to post a 10-0 non-conference victory over the Culver-Stockton baseball team Tuesday afternoon at Nichols Field in Canton, Mo.
In those two decisive innings, Wildcat pitcher allowed 10 runs (eight earned) on just six hits while walking two and hitting four batters. To make matters worse, the Wildcat defense committed three errors in those innings while also throwing four wild pitches.
Reliever Charlie Stergos and Evan Harsell were bright spots for the Wildcats. Stergos threw four innings of shutout ball while walking one and striking out one. Harsell pitched an inning, facing three batters and did not allow a run.
The Wildcat offense was limited to four singles by four different players. C-SC was also issued two walks in the game.
The Wildcats are slated to play their final regular season series of the year this weekend, April 24-25, against William Penn University at Nichols Field. Game time each day is set for 1 p.m.
