Wildcats Intercepted Four Times in Homecoming Loss to Saint Ambrose
The Culver-Stockton football team spoiled the homecoming's at Graceland University and Clarke University the last two games.
On Saturday, Saint Ambrose University turned the tables on the Wildcats, defeating the hosts 47-14 on homecoming Saturday at Ellison Poulton Stadium in Canton, Mo.
The loss snaps a modest two-game winning streak for the Wildcats, who drop to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference's North Division. Saint Ambrose improves to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in the North.
The day started well enough for C-SC, which kicked off to start the game and held the Bees to a three-and-out on the opening possession of the game.
The Wildcats then took over at their own 12 yard line and moved 88 yards on 10 plays, including converting a fourth and five in the process, to take a 7-0 lead when Keyian Hughes scampered in from five yards out.
However, the Bees answered with a touchdown of their own in the next possession and never let up, totaling 506 yards of total offense with 265 yards rushing and 241 yards passing.
Saint Ambrose led 14-7 after one quarter, 27-7 at halftime and 40-7 at the end of three quarters before each team scored in the final 15 minutes to account for the final score.
The Wildcats registered 358 yards of total offense but had their streak of rushing for 100-yards or more snapped at four games. The Wildcats rushed for 90 yards on 22 attempts. Quarterback Liam Thornton was the top rusher for the Wildcats, gaining 47 cards on in carries.
Thornton also threw for 268 yards through the air, completing 23 of his 41 passes. Thornton, who also threw four interceptions, three by Caden McDermott, had a 40-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Dixon in the fourth quarter. Dixon finished the day with eight receptions for 109 yards.
The Wildcats are slated to host Central Methodist University next Saturday, Nov. 1, at Poulton Stadium. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
