Men's Basketball Suffers 80-70 Setback at Park
The Culver-Stockton men's basketball team was unable to string together back-to-back victories with an 80-70 loss to Park University in Parkville, Mo., Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats, who overcame a 21-point second half deficit Wednesday to shock Mount Mercy 97-92, scored the first three points of the game before Park reeled off 13 consecutive points en route to a 13-3 start.
The Pirates was able to maintain that momentum throughout the first half and took a 45-37 lead to the halftime locker room after shooting 53 percent from the field. Meanwhile, C-SC managed to make 33 percent (11-33) if its field gal attempts in the half.
Like Wednesday, the Wildcats made a run in the second half, grabbing the lead on several occasions with the last coming at 60-59 after a 3-pointer by Ryan Stevenson with 10:49 to play in the the game.
However, the Pirates would hold the Wildcats scoreless the next four minutes and outscore the visitors 9-0 over that time to take a 68-60 lead. C-SC was outscored 21-10 over the final 10:49 of the game.
Stevenson had his best game as a Wildcat, scoring a season-high 21 points in the game. Stevenson was 8-for-17 from the field, including five 3-pointers.
Tai Walters-Whitaker added 15 markers and a team-best four assists, while Martez Rhodes scored 12 points, all in the first half, off the bench.
The Wildcats are scheduled to host Benedictine College in their final home game of the semester this Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Charles Field House. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m.
