Red-Hot Shooting Lifts Wildcats to First Victory

The Culver-Stockton men's basketball team shot a blistering 58 percent from the field in picking up its first victory of the season with a 95-62 rout of Health Science and Pharmacy (UHSP) Tuesday night at Charles Field House.

The Wildcats drained 54 percent (14-26) of their shots in the opening 20 minutes in building a 42-31 halftime lead. C-SC was even better in the second half, making 61 percent (20-33) to finish at 58.6 percent overall (34-59). The Wildcats were also pretty good at the free throw line, outscoring the Eutectics 22-11 from the foul stripe by making 22 of their 29 attempts.

Four of the five starters for the Wildcats reached double figures with five players overall scoring 10 or more points in the game.

Damar Jenkins led the Wildcats with 16 points followed by Damont Hanton and Ramzi Salem  with 15 points each. Travis Green III was the fourth starter in double figures with 14 markers. Joining that quartet was Kamren Wires, who came off the bench to net 12 points for C-SC, which never trailed in the game.

C-SC out-rebounded the visitors 39-36 despite allowing 15 offensive rebounds. Green topped the Wildcats with eight rebounds while Hanton and Wires totaled five caroms each.

Wires, who played 23 minutes off the bench, dished out a game-high six assists and garnered three steals to go along with hit point and rebound totals.

The Wildcat defense forced 16 turnovers and scored 30 points off those miscues. C-SC also got to the rim, holding a 52-36 edge in points in the paint. 

C-SC (1-2) is scheduled to play at Harris-Stowe State University this Saturday,  Nov. 8, in St. Louis, Mo. Game time is set for 3 p.m. The Hornets defeated the Wildcats 89-88 to open the season on Oct. 28.
