Second Half Scoring Drought Dooms Wildcats
The Culver-Stockton men's basketball team did not score for nearly 10 minutes in the second half in dropping an 85-68 decision to Missouri Baptist University at the Carl and Delores Petty Recreation Center in St. Louis, Mo., Wednesday night.
The Wildcats battled back from a double-digit deficit in the first half and only trailed 48-43 after shooting 54 percent from the field.
C-SC stayed close for the first five minutes of the second half, staying with three to six points in the opening minutes of the half.
A basket by C-SC's Alex Jackson IV pulled the Wildcats to within 60-54 with 14:09 remaining in the game.
However, that would be the last points for the Wildcats for a while.
The Wildcats missed their next nine shots and turned the ball over six times over the next nine minutes, 46 seconds before Damont Hanton drilled a 3-pointer to end the drought.
During that span, the Spartans outscored the Wildcats 20-0 to extend their lead from 60-54 to 80-54.
The Wildcats finished the game shooting 46 percent from the field, including 53 percent from the 3-point stripe. After shooting 17 free throws, making nine, in the first half, C-SC was just 1-for-2 in the second half from the free throw line.
Damar Jenkins and Ramzi Salem each tallied 14 points to lead the Wildcat offensive attack. Travis Green III was also in double figures with 11 markers.
C-SC was out-rebounded by the Spartans 34-27 in the game with Harrison Lewis garnering nine caroms to lead the Wildcats. Lewis also handed out a team-best four assists.
The Wildcats are slated to host Benedictine College in their first conference home game this Saturday, Nov 22. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Charles Field House.
