Jenkins Scores 30 in Wildcats' Seven-Point Loss to Missouri Valley
The Culver-Stockton men's basketball team was outscored 42-35 in the second half of a 72-65 loss to Missouri Valley College Wednesday night at the Burns Athletic Complex in Marshall, Mo.
The Wildcats and Vikings played to a 30-30 draw in the opening 20 minutes and the game remained close through the first 10 minutes of the second half before a 13-5 run by Missouri Valley gave the host a 60-51 lead with five minutes remaining.
C-SC clawed their way back into the game with a 13-6 run of it own in the final five minutes to cut the lead to 66-63 with 38 seconds left. However, the Vikings made enough free throws the final minute to keep the Wildcats at a safe distance.
Damar Jenkins scored his Wildcat high of 30 points by draining a season-best eight 3-pointers in the game. Jenkins was 10-for-20 from the field overall, including 8-for-14 from the 3-point arc. Travis Green III complemented Jenkins' effort with 16 points off the bench.
The Wildcats out-rebounded the Vikings 38-35 and had a 13-8 edge in second chance points. However, C-SC committed 17 turnovers and the Vikings took advantage, scoring 22 points off those miscues.
The Wildcats return home this Saturday, Jan. 17, for a Heart of America Athletic Conference games against Park University. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Charles Field House.
