Wildcats Score Early, Settle for Tie with Harris-Stowe
The Culver-Stockton men's soccer team was limited to one shot on goal in a 1-1 draw with Harris-Stowe State University Saturday night at Ellison Poulton Stadium in Canton.
The Wildcats made that one shot on goal count; however, scoring on a corner kick in the seventh minute of the game.
Jakson Baber netted his first goal of the season when he took a corner kick from Ethan Wilkinson-Felgate and put a shot past the Hornet goalkeeper early in the game.
The Wildcats outshot the Hornets 8-3 in the first half but the Hornets used were efficient enough to tie the game in the 28th minute of play.
The second half was a different story as the visitors held a 9-1 advantage in shots in the second half. C-SC goalkeeper Ricardo Fischbach made all four of his saves in t he second 45 minutes of action.
Each team registered six corner kicks in the game, and the Hornets had a 12-9 edge in overall shots. Harris-Stowe committed 13 fouls and had five yellow cards while C-SC had seven fouls and did not receive any cards.
The Wildcats, now 1-0-2 overall, is scheduled to play at Saint Ambrose University this Wednesday, Sept. 3, in Davenport, Iowa. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
