Men's Soccer Registers Second Draw with Nationally-Ranked Opponent

The Culver-Stockton men's soccer team snapped a four-game losing streak by earning a 1-1 draw with 16th-ranked Grand View University Wednesday night at Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines Iowa.

Both teams scored on their initial shots of the game in the first 10 minutes of regulation. The Vikings struck first in the sixth minute of action, but the Wildcats answered after a yellow card issued to a Grand View player.

On the re-start after the caution, Jakson Baber sent a ball into the penalty area where Koya Nakamura got a brief touch to Aldi Bajraktari who buried the shot in the back of the Vikings' net.

Bajraktari's shot was just one of four shots by the Wildcats in the game, all on frame. Meanwhile, Grand View dominated possession and recorded 17 overall shots but only put six on net. The Vikings also had a 9-0 edge in corner kicks. C-SC goalkeeper Ricardo Fischbach made five saves after allowing the first shot of the game.

C-SC had two opportunities in the second half with Baber garnering a shot on goal in the 59th minute while Ethan Felgate-Wilkinson directed a shot on goal in the 71st minute.

The Wildcats, who also own a draw with nationally-ranked William Penn University on Sept. 6, is now 1-5-4 overall and 0-4-2 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. C-SC is slated return to Ellison Poulton Stadium this Saturday, Sept. 27, for a league match against Central Methodist University. Game time is set of 5 p.m.
