Men's Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision to Benedictine
The Culver-Stockton and Benedictine men's soccer teams played 84 minutes of scoreless soccer before a rash of scoring opportunities in a three minute, 41 second span led to a 2-1 Benedictine victory at Ellison Poulton Stadium Saturday night.
It all started after Wildcat goalkeeper Ricardo Fischbach was given a red card for deliberately taking down a Raven offensive player.
That infraction happened with 6:06 to play in the game and Benedictine scored 44 seconds later against new goalkeeper Christiano Monteiro to take a 1-0 lead.
The Ravens added an insurance goal with 1:57 to play before the Wildcats were awarded a penalty kick 19 seconds later when Ethan Wilkinson-Felgate was taken down inside the penalty area.
Wilkinson-Felgate buried the penalty and then had a decent opportunity to get the equalizer with 28 seconds remaining but the Benedictine goalkeeper made the save.
The Ravens held a 13-8 edge in shots and a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. The Ravens also committed 20 fouls to 15 for the Wildcats.
C-SC is scheduled to host William Woods University this Friday, Oct. 24, for homecoming and senior night. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Poulton Stadium.
