Men's Track and Field Start Outdoor Season at CMU Open

The Culver-Stockton College men's track and field team began the outdoor portion of its spring schedule at the Central Methodist University Open Saturday afternoon in Fayette, Mo.

Logan Lucas celebrated the start of the outdoor season by setting a school record in the 3,000-meter run. Lucas, who set the mark of 9:33.78 in last year's CMU Open, smashed that school record with a time of 8:58.16, finishing first overall.

All-around performer Drew Mallett also had a pretty good start to the outdoor season, placing in the top eight in four different events. Mallett's best finish was fourth-place in the javelin throw with a mark of 152 feet, seven inches. Mallett also placed sixth in the 100-meter dash (11.09), seventh in the 110-meter hurdles (16.42), and sixth in the pole vault (11 feet, 5 3/4 inches).

In the other  sprints, Jabez Rivers placed fourth overall in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.54 seconds, while his brother, Judah Rivers, placed sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.57 seconds.

The 4x800 relay team consisting of Jailan Reynaga, Lucas, Chase Lake and Gannon McNamee, recorded the fourth-highest time in school history, finishing second in a time 8:54.39.

The Wildcats are scheduled to compete in the Grand View University Relays next Saturday, March 22, in Des Moines, Iowa.
