Jabez Rivers Helps Men's Track Claim Viking Relays

The Culver-Stockton men's track and field team did just enough to claim the Grand View Vikings Relays Saturday afternoon at Duke Williams Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Wildcats totaled 186 team points to narrowly defeat Grand View which posted 175 team points. William Penn was third in the field with 148 points.

Jabez Rivers was the only individual Wildcat to win an event, claiming both the 110-meter and the 400-meter hurdles. Rivers won the 110 hurdles in a season-best time of 15.09 seconds, and the 400 hurdles in 56.09 seconds. 

Drew Mallett did his part to help the Wildcats capture the team title, finishing high in several events. In the field events, Mallett placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 10 feet, 8 inches, and second in the triple jump with a leap of 40 feet flat. On the track, Mallett placed fourth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.98 seconds, fourth in the 200 with a time if 22.61 seconds, and sixth in the 100 with time of 11.19 seconds.

Judah Rivers also placed high in two events, placing third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.81 seconds, and finishing fifth in the 200 with a time of 22.64 seconds.

Logan Lucas placed second in both the 3000-meter steeplechase and the 5,000-meter run. Lucas registered a time of 9:32.30 in the steeplechase, and a time 16:43.93 in the 5000.

In other events, Kenny Tucker placed second in the 800 with a personal best time of 2:08.11, while also placing third in the 5000-meter race walk with a time of 27:39.23.

In addition, the Wildcats won two relays during the day, capturing the 4x100 with time of 43.43 seconds, and the 4x800 with a time of 9:54.34.

The Wildcats are slated to participate in the Central Methodist Invitational next Friday and Saturday, March 28-29, in Fayette, Mo.
