Culver-Stockton junior Drew Mallett set a personal best and likely punched his ticket to the NAIA Outdoor Championships in the decathlon during the running of the Central Methodist Invitational in Fayette, Mo., March 28-29.

Mallett recorded 6,322 points in the 10-discipline event, surpassing the 6,101 points he posted in winning the 2024 conference championship last spring. That point total has qualified for the national championships every year of the national meet. Mallett didn't win a single event in the decathlon, bit did finish second or third in eight of the 10 events. 

In other events, Kile Dowd and Gannon McNamee claimed first place in the 3000-meter steeplechase and the 10,000-meter run, respectively. Dowd won the steeplechase with a time of 11:00.84, while Chase Lake finished second in a time of 11:58.12. In the 10,000, McNamee won the event with a time of 37:10.25.

Dowd was busy during the weekend, finishing fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:46.73.

The Wildcats are scheduled to compete in the Cornell Invitational next Saturday, April 5, in Mount Vernon, Iowa. The meet is set to start at 10 a.m.
