Rivers Breaks Own Record in 110 Hurdles at Mustang Open
The Culver-Stockton men's track and field team competed in the Mustang Distance Carnival and Open at Mount Mercy University Friday and Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
No team scores were kept but the Wildcats finished in the top eight positions in eight different events during the meet.
Leading the way was Jabez Rivers with a second place finish and a fifth place in the hurdles. Rivers broke his own school record in the 110 hurdles, placing fifth with a time of 14.70 seconds. Rivers was even better in the 400 hurdles, finishing in a time of 54.94 seconds and placing second overall.
Drew Mallett also placed in two events during the meet, finishing fifth in the pole vault and sixth in the 200-meter dash. Mallet posted a mark of 11 feet, 5 3/4 inches in the pole vault, and a time of 22.12 seconds in the 200.
Two other student-athletes set personal bests while finishing in the top eight in their respective events.
Gannon McNamee finished fourth in the 10,000-meter run Friday night with a time personal best time of 36:26.12. Jayden Ferdinand placed fifth in the shot put with a mark of 39 feet, 11 1/2 inches.
In addition, the Wildcats also ran season bests in a pair of relays. In the 4x100 relay, the Wildcats placed fifth with a time of 42.78 seconds. Then, in the 4x400 relay, C-SC placed sixth overall with a time of 3:25.13.
The Wildcats are slated to host the Culver-Stockton Invitational this Friday, April 18, at Richeson Track inside Ellison Poulton Stadium. First events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
