Men's Track Begins Outdoor Season by Hosting Wildcat Relays

The Culver-Stockton men's track and field team started its outdoor season by hosting the Wildcat Relays Saturday afternoon at Richeson Track in Canton, Mo.

The Wildcats recorded 202 total team points to finish second among the four teams competing in the event. State Fair Community College won the event with 223 points while UHSP was third with 113 points and Hannibal-LaGrange fourth with 20 points.

The Wildcats won five events with graduate student Logan Lucas capturing two of the events. C-SC also won the 4x400 relay the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash.

Lucas led the way with a first place in the 3000-meter steeple chase, setting the facility record with a time of 9:40.87. Lucas followed up that performance by winning the 5000-meter run with a time of 16:12.80.

Drew Mallett had a big day for the Wildcats on the track and in the field. Mallett won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.85 seconds, and finished second in the 100 with a time of 11.45 seconds.

Mallett also recorded top five finishes in six field events during the day. He finished third in the pole vault with a height of 11'9 ¾ inches. Mallet also placed third in the high jump and javelin. His mark in the high jump was 5'9 ¼ and the javelin with a throw of 143'2.

Mallet also added a pair of four place finishes in the long jump and the discus, and a fifth place finish in the shot put. In the long jump, Mallett hit a mark of 20 feet, 2 ½ inches in the long jump, 96 feet in the discus, and 35 feet, 7 ¾ inches in the shot put.

The final event winner went to Judah Rivers in the 400 meter dash. Rivers completed the circuit in a time of 50.61 seconds. In addition, Rivers set a personal best time of 11.44 seconds in the 100.

The Wildcats are scheduled to compete at the Central Methodist Open this Saturday, March 21, in Fayette, Mo. First events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
