Mallett Wins Heart Decathlon for Third Consecutive Year
Senior Drew Mallett registered 6,070 points to claim the title of the Heart of America Athletic Conference's greatest athlete by winning the decathlon for the third straight year at the 2026 Heart of America Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships presented by 516 Sports Capital Saturday afternoon.
As a team, the Wildcats placed 11th overall with 19 total points, finishing well behind team champion Benedictine College, which tabulated 147 team points at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Mallett stood in second place with two events remaining but won the javelin throw with a throw of 145 feet, 10 inches to garner 507 points, and then placed fifth in the 1,500-meter run with a season best time of 5:03.31 while Inoka placed seventh with a time of 6:15.02. Mallett also ran a season-best 50.56 seconds in the 400 during the competition.
In other action, graduate student Logan Lucas placed second in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a school-record time of 9:18.55. Teammate Shivneel Dutt finished 17th in the steeplechase with a personal best time of 12:16.15.
C-SC also gained a point in the 4x100 relay, placing eighth overall. The team of Mallett, Judah Rivers, Austin Snoderly and Ayden Hodges completed the circuit in a time of 42.66 seconds.
