Wildcats Take One Set in Loss to No. 5 Missouri Valley
The Culver-Stockton men's volleyball team suffered a four-set loss to fifth-ranked Missouri Valley College Tuesday night at the Burns Athletic Complex in Marshall, Mo.
The Wildcats dropped the first two sets before finding its groove in the third set to keep the match alive. However, the Vikings made sure there would be no upset this night be defeating the visitors in the fourth set to claim a 25-21, 25-15, 21-25, 25-17 victory.
C-SC registered 44 kills in the match, recording a .162 hitting percentage, while the Vikings totaled 56 kills and a .287 attack percentage. The team blocks were even with 12 each, though C-SC had seven solo stuffs and 10 assists, while Missouri Valley had 10 solo blocks and 4 assists.
The Wildcats had three players with eight or more kills in the match with Cooper Varner leading that parade with 11 terminations. Henry Reeves garnered nine kills while Rio Victor contributed eight terminations. Matt Reese and Kirvan Hughes combined for 39 of the 43 set assists with Reese having 21 set assists.
Defensively, Victor led the charge at the net with six blocks, including two solo and four block assists. Bill Clarke Frederick and Reeves garnered four blocks each with two solos and two block assists.
The Wildcats conclude their road swing this Friday and Saturday, March 20-21, with matches against Morningside and Dordt. C-SC faces Morningside on Friday in Sioux City, Iowa, starting at 7 p.m.
