Ruiz Shuts Out UHSP to Help Wildcats Gain Split
The Culver-Stockton College softball team gained a split of a doubleheader with Health Sciences and Pharmacy (UHSP) Sunday afternoon at Himsl Field.
The Wildcats banged out 15 hits in an 8-0 six-inning victory over the Eutectics in the second game. IN the opener, UHSP scored eight times in the first two innings to hand C-SC a 9-2 defeat.
In the game two victory, Ryley Pecina led the offensive onslaught by going 3-for-3 with three runs batted in and two runs scored. Haley Gedros set the table for the Wildcats, collecting three hits in three at-bats and two runs scored from the leadoff spot in the order.
Lacey Stamper was the third Wildcat player with three hits in the game, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI. Kataleena Hunt and Aspyn Harrison both collected two hits and drove in one run.
In the cycle, Penny Ruiz earned her second victory of the season with a complete game shutout. Ruiz pitched a two-hitter, allowing two walks, while striking out five to improve to 2-3 on the year.
The Eutectics scored six times in the opening inning and never looked back in game one. Harrison, C-SC's starter, allowed six hits and a walk in her 2/3 innings pitched before being replaced by Makayla Slavik.
Slavik finished the game, allowing two unearned runs in the second inning before allowing one run to the Eutectics over the final five innings. Slavik scattered four hits, walked four and allowed three runs in 6 1/3 innings. She struck out six.
Gedros and Harrison collected two hits each to lead the seven-hit attack by the Wildcats. Alexis Davis and Faith McCoskey recorded one RBI each for the host team.
The Wildcats (8-14) are scheduled to play a non-conference doubleheader at William Woods University on Tuesday, March 19. The first game is slated to begin at 2 p.m. in Fulton, Mo.
