The Culver-Stockton softball team plated two runs late to gain a split of its doubleheader with William Woods University Tuesday afternoon in Fulton, Mo.

Brylee Throgmorton's RBI groundout in the sixth inning broke a 1-1 tie to help the Wildcats claim a 2-1 victory in the second game of the doubleheader. C-SC fell to the Owls 5-3 in the opening game.

The Wildcats were trailing 1-0 in the fifth inning of the second game when they finally broke through against WWU pitcher Brooke Lopez.

With two outs in the inning, Ryley Pecina reached on an infield error. Selina Guzman made the Owls pay for that mistake with a run-scoring double to tie the game.

Then in the next inning, C-SC's Sophia Ashby began the inning with a walk. Myah Briese laid down a sacrifice bunt and Ashby sprinted alll the way to third on the play. 

The next batter, Throgmorton, ground back to the pitcher, but Ashby raced home with the go-ahead run.

Makayla Slavik allowed two baserunners in the seventh inning; however, Slavik got Arianna Donovan to four out to the catcher to end the gamed even her record at 4-4.

Slavik pitched her second straight complete game, scattering eight hits in the game. She allowed one unearned run, walked three and struck out three.

Cierra Bush was the only Wildcat to register more than one hit in the game, collecting two of the Wildcats' seven hits overall.

In the first game, C-SC took a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning on a RBI double by Katareena Hunt and a run-scoring single by Pecina. However the Owls plated three runs in the bottom of the frame to secure the 5-3 victory.

Pecina had three hits in the game to lead the offense. Haley Gedros added two hits, including a triple to start the game.

The Wildcats are scheduled to begin Heart of America Athletic Conference play this Friday, March 22, at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan. Game time of the opening games started for 1 p.m.
