The Culver-Stockton College softball team dropped three of the four Heart of America Athletic Conference games it played Friday and Saturday.

The Wildcats began the weekend with a split against Missouri Valley College at Himsl Field Friday afternoon. The Vikings claimed the first game 7-0 while the Wildcats rebounded with a 3-1 victory in the nightcap.

On Saturday, C-SC traveled to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to face Mount Mercy University and the Mustangs proved to be not so gracious hosts, defeating the Wildcats 13-1 and 4-2 to sweep the doubleheader.

In the Wildcats' only victory of the weekend, junior pitcher Penny Ruiz was stellar in the circle allowing just four hits and one unearned run. Ruiz walked one and struck out five to improve her record to 3-4 on the season.

Ryley Pecina went 3-for-3 in that game with a run batted in to lead the seven-hit attack by the Wildcats. Selina Guzman added two hits and finished 2-for-3.

In the three losses this weekend, C-SC managed just 10 combined hits in the three games. The Wildcats were shutout on three hits in the opener against Missouri Valley and had just two hits in the game one loss to Mount Mercy. C-SC collected five hits in the game two loss to the Mustangs.

Pecina collected two hits and an RBI against Mount Mercy in the second game. Cierra Bush added a run batted in while Guzman had an RBI in the first game.

C-SC returns to action this Wednesday, April 3, with a doubleheader against William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa. The first game is slated to start at 1 p.m.
