Wildcat Softball Completes Season Sweep of Hannibal-LaGrange

The Culver-Stockton College softball team completed a season sweep of Hannibal-LaGrange University with a doubleheader victory over the Trojans at the Veterans Sports Complex in Hannibal, Mo., Wednesday night.

The Wildcats, who swept a twin bill from the Trojans on Feb. 27 in Canton, banged out 20 hits in defeating the hosts 8-3 and 11-1. C-SC improves to 16-30 overall while the Trojans drop to 5-41 on the season.

Lacey Stamper led the offensive attack with five hits in seven at-bats covering both games of the doubleheader. Stamper was 3-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI in the first game, and 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the nightcap.

Other than Stamper, no other C-SC players recorded more than one hit in the opener game. Haley Gedros and Brylee Throgmorton joined Stamper with two runs batted in. 

Starting pitcher Penny Ruiz went the distance, striking out 11, to pick up her sixth victory in 11 decisions. Ruiz scattered four hits and walked two, Only one of the three runs she allowed was earned.

Gedros and Ryley Pecina collected two hits in the nightcap to join Stamper with a multiple hit game. Four different players, Gedros, Kataleena Hunt, Rosa Anguiano and Myah Briese all  registered two RBI each.

Lauren Sinks improved to 3-8 in the circle with a complete-game four-hitter. Sinks walked four and struck out eight.

The Wildcats have a quick turnaround and are scheduled to play their final road doubleheader of the season tomorrow, Thursday, April 25, at third-ranked Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo, First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. This doubleheader was scheduled for Friday, but was  pushed up a day with threat of rain on Friday.
