Wildcats Drop Doubleheader to Mount Mercy on Senior Day

The Culver-Stockton College softball team ended its season by dropping a doubleheader to Mount Mercy University on senior day at Himsl Field in Canton, Mo.

The Mustangs plated two runs in the second inning and three more in the fifth inning to register a 5-1 victory in the first game. In the nightcap, Mount Mercy hurlers limited the Wildcats to three total hits in a 2-0 victory to earn the sweep.

In the opener, it was C-SC who started fast, grab ing a 1-0 lead after one inning. Paige Kurfman opened the inning with a solid single to center field, was sacrificed to second by Tiffany Lepic, and scored on a RBI single by Kataleena Hunt.

The Wildcats' Lacey Stamper collected the third single of the inning for C-SC to put runners at first and second, but Cierra Bush popped out to end the inning.

Mount Mercy pitchers Maggie McNally and Ashley Webb held the Wildcats to just one hit after the first inning, a single by Kurfman in the third inning. However, Kurfman was erased after trying to advance to third when the ball got past the centerfielder.

Penny Ruiz threw six innings, allowing 11 hits and five runs, in her final start for the Wildcats. Kaylee Yost entered the game with none out and a runner on base in in the seventh inning and retired all three batters she faced including a strikeout.

In the nightcap, the Wildcats were limited to two singles and a double in being shutout for the 10th time this season.

Kurfman recorded her third hit of the day in the second game, while Ryley Pecina had a singled Lauren Ferguson added a double.

After a scoreless game through three innings, Mount Mercy scored both of its runs in the fourth inning, garnering three hits and a costly Wildcat error in the process.

C-SC starter Sophie Stuart pitched the first 3 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and two runs while walking one. Yost relieved Stuart and threw 3 2/3 innings, scattering two hits and no runs while striking out three.

The Wildcats complete the 2025 campaign with a 11-39 overall record and a 4-20 mark in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.
