Wildcats Fall in Final Two Games of the Weekend
The Culver-Stockton softball team closed out the opening weekend of the season with two losses Sunday at the Dordt Dome in Sioux Center, Iowa.
The Wildcats, who were 2-2 entering Sunday's play, were tied with Mount Marty (S.D.) through four innings before the Lancers plated four runs in the bottom of the fifth enroute to a 5-1 victory.
In their second game, the Wildcats watched as Morningside (Iowa) scored four in the first inning, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and five in the sixth on their way to a 12-2 victory. The Wildcats scored both of their runs in the fourth inning.
C-SC registered six hits in the loss to Mount Marty with Leila Lopez collecting three singles and scoring a run. Samantha Vetter recorded a single and a run batted it, while Sophie Meyer and Ryley Pecina also had base hits for the Wildcats.
Five different players garnered hits in the loss to Morningside with Pecina and Lauren Ferguson registering doubles. Ferguson drove in both runs with her two-base hit in the fourth inning.
The Wildcats (2-4) are scheduled to play four games at the Rosemont Classic this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 13-14, in Rosemont, Ill. C-SC is scheduled to play 20th-ranked Indiana Wesleyan at 5 p.m. and Indiana University-South Bend at 7 p.m. Friday at the Rosemont Dome.
