Softball Suffers Sweep at Benedictine
The Culver-Stockton softball team dropped both ends of a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader to Benedictine College at Ravens Field in Atchison, Kan., Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats were limited to two hits in a 9-0 loss in the opener, and then the Ravens walked-off the second game to win 4-3 in nine innings to complete the sweep.
In the first game, the Wildcats managed a one out single by Aleki Ulu in the second inning and a leadoff double by Ulu in the fifth inning for their only baserunners in the game.
The Ravens plated six runs in the second inning with the help of a grand slam home run and a two-run homer. Benedictine added a two-run homer in the fifth inning.
In the nightcap. C-SC jumped out in front in the first inning on a run-scoring single by Ulu that scored Ryley Pecina with the game's first run.
After the Ravens took a 2-1 lead in the in the fourth, the Wildcats answered with a pair of runs in the fifth inning on a two-run double by Samantha Vetter.
The Ravens tied the game in the sixth inning and then was able to scratch across a run in the ninth to achieve the sweep.
Pecina was one of three players to record multiple hits for the Wildcats, finishing with three hits and a run scored. Vetter ended the game with two doubles, while Leila Lopez also had two hits for C-SC.
The Wildcats are slated to end the weekend road trip with a doubleheader at nationally-ranked Central Methodist University Sunday in Fayette, Mo. The first game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
