Childers Shuts Out MNU to Help Softball Split Twinbill
Cabria Childers registered her second shutout of the season to help the Culver-Stockton softball team split a Heart of America Athletic Conference twinbill with MidAmerica Nazarene University Monday night at Williams Field in Olathe, Kan.
Childers, who threw her first shutout against York (Neb.) on Feb. 7, scattered eight hits while walking one and striking out two to earn a 6-0 game two victory. The Pioneers defeated the Wildcats 10-4 in the opener.
Childers got all the offense she would need in the first inning when Samantha Vetter led off the game by reaching on a three base error. Payton Todd followed with a RBI bunt single to score Vetter for a 1-0 lead.
C-SC plated two more in the second inning on a leadoff double by Sophie Meyer, a RBI triple by Vetter and a RBI groundout by Todd to led 3-0 after two innings.
The Wildcats added single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, scoreng on a fielder's choice in the third, a RBI single by Hunter Huddle in the fourth, and an error by MNU in the fifth.
Huddle, Ryley Pecina and Todd all collected two hits to lead the Wildcat offensive attack. Todd finished with two runs batted in.
In the opener, MNU scored five times in the first two innings and then adde two more in the fourth and three more in the sixth inning. C-SC managed to plate two runs each in the fifth and sixth inning.
Todd recorded two of the Wildcats' five hits and contributed a run batted in for the Wildcats. Kataleena Hunt and Colby Keckler chipped in with a RBI each.
The Wildcats are slated to complete the road trip tomorrow, Tuesday, April 7, with a doubleheader at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan. The first game is set to begin at 1 p.m. at Cavaness Field.
