Softball Picks Up Another Split at Baker
Sophie Meyer went 3-for-4 at the plate and Cabria Childers pitched another gem to help the Culver-Stockton softball team earn a split of its Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader at Baker University Tuesday afternoon in Baldwin City, Kan.
Baker scored seven runs in the first three innings before holding on for a 7-6 victory in the opener. Childers scattered four hits and allowed one run as the Wildcats got the split with a 7-1 decision in the nightcap.
In the victory, Childers improved to 11-8 on the season by allowing four singles while walking one and striking out one. She only let a lone run in the second inning.
The Wildcat plated two in the top of the second on an error and a RBI double but Meyer, who had three hits, two runs scored and two runs batted in.
C-SC added a solo home run from Aleki Ulu in the third and two runs each in the fourth and the fifth innings. Another error plated another run and a sacrifice fly by Ryley Pecina scored the two runs in the fourth. In the fifth, a squeeze bunt by Lauren Ferguson scored one run and Meyer drove in her second run with a single.
Ferguson and Ulu each contributed two hits and Ferguson scored two runs to help complement the efforts of Meyer.
In the opener, Baker scored five times in the first to the a 5-2 lead. C-SC plated two more runs in the second inning on a two-run double by Samantha Vetter to cu t the deficit to 5-4.
Baker added two more runs in the third on a two-run homer; however, the Wildcats made it a game in the fifth inning when Cierra Bush marched Baker's two-run homer wit a two-run home run of her own. Bush finished with two hits and two runs batted in.
C-SC, now 21-19 overall and 8-10 in the Heart, is scheduled to return home this Saturday and Sunday, April 11-12, for a pair of doubleheaders against conference opponents. The Wildcats are slated to face Clarke University Saturday starting at 1 p.m. at Himsl Field.
