Shooters Begin Season in Panther Classic at Drury University
The Culver-Stockton College Shotgun Sports team began the 2023-24 season last weekend in the Panther Classic at Drury University in Springfield, Mo.
The Wildcats finished seventh among the eight teams competing with a grand total of 1,246 targets hit in the four disciplines, sporting clays, skeet, trap and five-stand. Drury University won the event with 1,602 targets hit with Lindenwood finishing second with 1,599 targets hit.
The top shooter for the Wildcats was James Stutheit, who hit a grand total of 292 targets. Stutheit hit 74 targets in sporting clays, 93 targets in skeet, 88 targets in trap, and 37 in five-stand. Lawren Ruths was next with 279 targets hit. Ruths hit 63 targets in sporting clays, 87 targets in skeet, a team-high 92 targets in trap, and 37 targets in five-stand.
Jade Wiegmann and Lucas Wellman recorded 240 targets and 237 targets hit, respectively. Wiegmann's best discipline was trap with 83 targets hit. Wellman also did well in trap with 87 targets hit. Alex Albert rounded out the Wildcat group with a total of 198 targets hit with 65 in trap being hi high score.
The Wildcats return to action at the end of the month when they compete in the Lindenwood Fall Open, Sept 29 – Oct. 1 in Bridgeton, Mo.
