Women's Basketball Beats HLGU for Second Time this Season
The Culver-Stockton College women's basketball team defeated Hannibal-LaGrange University for the second straight Saturday to earn its second victory of the season at Porter Gymnasium in Hannibal, Mo.
The Wildcats, who defeated the Trojans 66-36 last Saturday in the final game of the Atrium on Third Hotel Classic at Charles Field House, had little trouble in Saturday's rematch, winning 80-30.
C-SC led scored 22 points in each of the first two quarters and led 44-11 at the intermission en route to its 19 consecutive victory over HLGU dating back to the 2015 season. The Wildcats outscored HLG 12-9 in the third quarter to lead 56-20 after 30 minutes.
The Wildcats were led by junior guard Avery Oetting with 22 points. Oetting was 8-for-14 from the field, including five-for-eight from the 3-point stripe. Oetting also led the defense with five steals.
Elly Bentley, making her first start for the Wildcats, netted 14 points and four assists while senior Katie Webb chipped in with 13 markers and six rebounds.
The Wildcats out-rebounded the hosts 36-27 in the game with Haley Webb garnering a team-best 10 caroms. Misora Nambara matched Bentley's output of assists with four helpers while adding three steals.
The Wildcats (2-1) are back in action this Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis,Mo. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
