Wildcats Lose Fourth Straight Road Game with Loss at Park University
The Culver-Stockton women's basketball team ended its first semester schedule with a 68-57 Heart of America Athletic Conference loss to Park University Saturday afternoon at the Breckon Sports Center in Parkville, Mo.
The setback was the fourth straight road loss for the Wildcats who fall to 7-5 overall and 4-4 in the conference. The 57 points scored by C-SC was also the fewest points scored this season.
The Wildcats trailed 18-16 after the first quarter, but really struggled in the second quarter when they made just one field goal on eight attempts. C-SC had just as many turnovers as they did points, seven, in the second quarter and went to the halftime break trailing 34-23. C-SC had 17 turnovers in the game, leaving to 21 Park points.
The Pirates extended their lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 19-13 in the period to take a 53-36 lead to the final 10 minutes. C-SC won the fourth quarter 21-15 but was never able to get the deficit under double figures.
Avery Oetting led the Wildcats in scoring and rebounding, netting 15 points and grabbing five rebounds, respectively. Misora Nambara added 14 points and dished out a career-high six assists.
The Wildcats made 19 shots on 48 attempts, both season lows, from the field for a shooting percentage of 39.6 percent. C-SC was 6-for-18 from the 3-point stripe but stayed within striking distance by going 13-14 from the free throw line.
C-SC is scheduled to return to action after the holidays on Thursday, Jan. 2, when they face nationally-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kan. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m. in the Cook Center.
