Fast Start Helps Wildcats End Road Swoon

A fast start helped the Culver-Stockton College women's basketball team earn its first conference road victory of the season Wednesday night at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

The victory ended a three-game losing streak overall and a seven-game road losing skid in Heart of America Athletic Conference games. C-SC, which won the first time on the road in league play this season, is now 11-9 overall and 8-8 win the Heart.

The Wildcats shot 73 percent in the opening 10 minutes, making 11 of their 15 shot attempts, en route to a 27-11 first quarter lead en route to a 72-56 victory at Penn Gynasium. C-SC limited the Statesmen to 5-for-13 shooting from the field and forced six turnovers in the quarter.

The Wildcats outscored the home team 13-8 in the second quarter to lead 40-19 at halftime before each team registered 10 points in the third quarter for a 50-29 Wildcat lead entering the fourth period.

Katie Webb led three Wildcat players in double figures with 17 points  while also grabbing a game-high seven rebounds. Olivia Hopp added a career-high 13 points while Misora Nambara chipped in with 11 markers.

C-SC finished the game shooting 48 percent from the field overall and out-rebounded the Statesmen 33-26 in the game. The Wildcats had 17 team assists in the game with Elizabeth Reed dishing out four helpers.

The Wildcats return to action this Saturday, Feb. 1, when they host Park University at Charles Field House. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
