Women's Bowling Fall into Consolation Bracket after Close Loss in First Round
The Culver-Stockton women's bowling team competed in their first-ever NAIA National Championship on Thursday, opening the day with baker play before playing their first bracket game of the week.
The Wildcats opened the morning with bracket play, and had a poor start to their morning thanks to their first-set score of 698. That score, coupled with a 670 score in the final baker set, kept the Wildcats toward the bottom of the bracket as they finished with a total of 4379 pins, slotting into 11th in qualifying in the 12-team field.
C-SC faced sixth-seeded Concordia (Mich.) in round one of the NAIA Championships. The Wildcats would coast to an easy victory in the first game of the best of seven series, winning 236-183. Concordia would slip by in game two 188-183 and then claim the third game 184-183 to take a 2-1 lead in the series. C-SC leveled the series at two game each with a 199-190 victory in game four before Concordia took the decisive fifth game 174-159. The final two games of the series ended with ties, giving the series to Concordia.
The Wildcats' loss drops them to the consolation bracket, where they will play the loser of fourth-seed William Penn (Iowa) and 12th-seed Morningside (Iowa). The third round of the NAIA Championship is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
