Offensive Goes Cold in Second Half as Wildcats Remain Winless on the Road

The Culver-Stockton women's lacrosse team was outscored 5-1 in the second half as Tennessee Wesleyan overcame a 6-5 halftime deficit to post a 10-7 victory Saturday afternoon in Athens, Tenn.

The Wildcats got three first half goals from Addison Holm in building a 6-5 halftime lead over the Bulldogs. Kaleigh Poe, Rylan Mahone and Brookelyn Lindberg also scored goals for the Wildcats in the first half.

However, C-SC was limited to just one shot and outscored 3-0 in the third quarter as the Bulldogs took an 8-6 lead heading to the final 15 minutes of play.

The fourth quarter was scoreless until TWU notched an insurance goal with just over three minutes remaining in the game.

The Wildcats finally found the back of the net in the second half when Jacee Grindsteinner scored on a free position shot with 2:45 left to pull with two. But the Bulldogs sealed the victory over a minute later with a goal at 1:37 remaining in the game.

Both teams registered 21 shots in the game with C-SC putting 18 of its shots on goal. TWU made 11 saves while C-SC goalie Donelle Wagner stopped just four of the 14 TWU shots on goal.

C-SC held a big advantage in draws, controlling 13 of the 20 taken in t he game. Holm controlled eight of the 13 draws won by the Wildcats. 

The Wildcats had 22 turnovers to the Bulldogs' 16 miscues and the Wildcats were 13-for-19 on clears while the Bulldogs were 20-for-23.

The Wildcats (2-4) are scheduled return home on Monday, March 16, for a non-conference game against Life (Ga.) at Ellison Poulton Stadium. Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
