Women's Lacrosse Ends Season in Heart Semifinals
ATCHISON, Kan. – A fast start by defending national champion and top-ranked Benedictine College proved too much to overcome as the Culver-Stockton women's lacrosse team lost 29-1 in the semifinals of the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament Thursday afternoon in Atchison, Kan.
The Wildcats, who advanced to the semifinals for the first time in program history, finish their season at 6-10 overall. The Ravens, who have won 36 consecutive games, improves to 15-0 and will face Missouri Baptist in the championship game Saturday.
The Ravens wasted no time taking charge in the opening quarter, scoring in the first minute and adding nine more goals to lead 10-0 after 15 minutes.
Benedictine dominated play in the first half, out-shooting the Wildcats 32-1 and controlling 13 of the 15 draws in building a 17-0 first half lead.
C-SC broke up the shutout in the third quarter when Brookelyn Lindberg scored her 17th goal of the season on an assist from Addison Holm, her 31st helper of the year.
The Ravens controlled play throughout the match and finished with a 52-3 edge in shots and a 22-5 advantage in draw controls. The Wildcats committed 20 turnovers to Benedictine's seven.
C-SC used two goalkeepers in the game with Jillian Vervynck making seven saves in 34 minutes of game action. Donelle Wagner also saw playing time and registered five saves in 26 minutes.
