Wildcats Concede First Half Goal, Fall to CMU in Heart Quarters

Central Methodist University made a first half goal stand up in posting a 1-0 victory over the Culver-Stockton College women's soccer team in the quarterfinals of the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament Tuesday afternoon in Fayette, Mo.

The Wildcats, who were making their first postseason appearance since 2021, conclude the season at 10-7-2 overall. CMU, ranked sixth in the NAIA national poll, improves to 15-2-1 overall and will play the winner of the game between Benedictine and Baker.

The Eagles, seeded third in the tournament, scored the only goal of the game in the 32nd minute off a corner kick with Luisa Schaupp took a pass from Sara Garcia off the re-start from Paula Garcia and put it past C-SC goalkeeper Mackenzie Frizzell.

Frizzell stopped the other two shots on goal in the first half and all four shots in the second half, registering six saves in the game, to keep C-SC within striking distance.

The Wildcats collected seven shots in the game with four of those seven shots being put on frame. C-SC also added four first half corner kicks but failed to produce a corner kick in the second half.

Savannah Stauffer, Alayna Chandler-Gutierrez, McKenna Little and Lexi Clark all had shots on goal for the Wildcats. Rian Moore, Halle Jennex and Ellie Wiehardt all registered shots for the visitors.
