Wildcats Make First Road trip a Successful One
The Culver-Stockton women's soccer team had a successful road trip to Columbia, Mo., with a 3-1 victory over Stephens College in non-conference action at Battle High School Wednesday night.
Like in their season opening victory over Waldorf last Friday, the Wildcats struck early in the first half to grab a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Rian Moore took a pass from Alexa Collao in the 13th minute and beat the Stars goalkeeper for her third goal of the season.
C-SC made it 2-0 in the 25th minute when Halle Jennex notched her first goal of the season, taking a pass from Lexi Clark who registered the first of her two assists on the night.
Stephens ended the shutout just before halftime with a penalty kick in the 43rd minute of the half. That would be the only goal junior goalkeeper Sam Link would allow as she Improved to 2-0 with seven saves in the game.
In the second half, the Wildcats added some insurance when Alayna Chandler-Gutierrez recorded her first goal of the season in the 80th minute. Clark assisted on the goal.
Overall, C-SC held a 23-11 edge in shots, including a 15-9 advantage on goal. The Wildcats also had a 9-2 advantage on corner kicks.
C-SC (2-0) is slated to host Harris-Stowe State College this Saturday, Aug. 30, at Poulton Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
