Williamson, Glasmann Help Wildcats Shutout Grand View
Isabella Williamson stopped four shot attempts to earn her first collegiate shutout as the Culver-Stockton women's soccer team posted a 2-0 victory over Grand View University Wednesday night at the Bob Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines, Iowa.
Williamson, making her second career start, was called upon to make just one save in the first half and three saves in the second half to gain her first collegiate victory.
The Wildcats, who had lost four straight games entering the contest, jumped out in front 1-0 in the 17th minute when Audrey Glasmann sent a pass to Lola Weise about 25 yards from the goal. Weise took two steps and delivered a rocket past the Viking goalkeeper for her second goal of the season.
The score stayed that way until the 52nd minute when the Wildcats were fouled deep in Grand View territory. Alyson Smith struck the re-start into the penalty area and a Viking defender headed it toward the Viking goal.
The Grand View goalkeeper kept the ball out of the net to prevent an own goal; however, she couldn't corral it and the rebound came to Glasmann who punched past the Goalie and into the net for a very important insurance goal.
C-SC collected nine shots in each half and outshot the hosts 18-4 overall. The Wildcats also held a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.
Alayna Chandler-Gutierrez led the Wildcats with six shots overall while Weise totaled five shots overall, including a team-high three shots on goal.
C-SC, now 5-4-1 overall and 2-4-0 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, returns home Saturday night, Sept. 27, to face Central Methodist University. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Ellison Poulton Stadium.
