Weise Nets Lone Goal for Women's Soccer in 3-1 Setback to No. 18 CMU

The Culver-Stockton women's soccer team cut a 2-0 halftime deficit in half early in the second half but could no closer as they fell to 18th-ranked Central Methodist University Saturday night at Ellison Poulton Stadium.

The Wildcats allowed two goals in the opening half, but.a foul in the penalty area on CMU in the 53rd minute gave C-SC a chance to get on the scoreboard. Sophomore Lola Weise buried the free kick to make the score 2-1. CMU added an insurance goal 10 minutes later to account for the 3-1 CMU victory.

The Eagles outshot the Wildcats 14-9 in the game, holding an 8-4 edge on shots on goal. The Edges also had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Isabella Williamson started in goal and made five saves in the game. Each team were issued two yellow cards in the match.

Lexi Clark led the Wildcat offense with three shots overall, including one on goal. Alayna Chandler-Gutirrez and Hallie Jennex garnered two shots each.

The Wildcats, now 5-5-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, is scheduled to play at Columbia College in a non-conference game this Thursday, Oct. 2, in Columbia, Mo. Game time is slated for 4:30 p.m.
