Women's Track and Field Place Fourth at Luther Invitational
The Culver-Stockton College women's track and field team recorded 64.5 points to finish fourth among the seven teams who registered points at the Luther Invitational in Decorah, Iowa, Saturday afternoon.
Hamline won the team competition with 144 points while Upper Iowa University garnered 106 points to place second and Luther had 88 points for third.
Shannon O'Neil continues to have an outstanding indoor season, breaking her own school record twice in the 60-meter hurdles in the meet. O'Neil, who set the record at 9.56 earlier this season, qualified with a time 9.55 seconds to break the mark by .01 before finishing second in the final with a time of 9.42 seconds.
Faith Younce had a good day on the track, placing second in the 2000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:01.92, and placing third in the 3000-meter run in a time of 11:55.64.
Allison Morris also placed in the 2000 steeple and the 3000 meter run, finishing third in the steeplechase with a time of 8:41.22, while placing fifth in the 3000 with a time of 12:46.08.
Kinlie Judd and Zoi Smith finished third and fourth, respectively, in the pole vault. Both athletes topped 8 feet, 6 inches with Judd gaining the spot in less attempts.
Petra Johnson placed third in the long jump with a mark of 14 feet, 8 1/2 inches, while O'Neil also contributed in. the field events, placing fifth in the high jump. O'Neil cleared the bar at 4 feet, 6 inches.
In the relays, the 4x400 relay team of Younce, Morris, Caroline Lindsey and Morgan Keith placed fourth in a time of 5:00.38.
The Wildcats are slated to compete in their final tuneup before the conference meet next Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Darren Young Classic at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa. The meet is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
