Women's Track Opens Season at the Cornell Winter Classic

The Culver-Stockton women's indoor track and field team opened the 2025-26 season with a convincing victory at the Cornell Winter Classic at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, Friday night.

The Wildcats registered 191 team points thanks to six event victories while also setting three personal bests and one school record. Luther totaled 115 points while Luther had 87 points.

Delaney Straus won three events and set one personal high mark to lead the Wildcats. Straus won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:21.91, then added wins in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 3 1/4 inches, and the high jump with.a height of 5 feet, 1 1/4 inches, which was a personal high.

Emma Smith captured the 60-meter dash with a time of eight seconds flat while Kinlie Judd won the triple jump with a career-best leap of 32 feet, 11 1/2 inches.

The final victory came in the 4x200 relay as the Wildcat broke the school record with a time of 1:52.58. That mark eclipsed the old mark of 1:52.68 set at the Principe Relays in 2015.

In other events, Faith Hopgood set two personal marks during the event. Hopgood finished second in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet, 4 inches, and third in the weight throw with a mark of 38 feet, 3 1/2 inches.

The Wildcats will really get into the season next week when they compete in the Finals Week Invitational Friday and Saturday, Dec. 12-13, at Saint Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa. Events begin at 4 p.m. Friday and 12 p.m. on Saturday.
