Women's Track and Field Sets School Record in Medley Relay
The Culver-Stockton women's track and field team scored points in seven events and registered 33 points to finish seventh at the Hilltop Invitational hosted by Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats set a school record in winning the 1600-meter sprint medley with a time of 4:35.59. The previous record was 4:40.98 from the Dr. Jim Green Invitational at Illinois College in 2009. Team members running were Samantha Stone, Malia Carmack, Emma Smith and Victoria Pollard.
C-SC also scored in the 4x400 relay by placing sixth overall with a time of 4:30.19. Running in that relay were Pollard, Carmack, Stone and Erin Peppler.
Smith earned the best finish as an individual, placing second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.04 in the finals. Smith qualified first overall with a time of 7.97 seconds.
Emma Berry placed in the top five in two distance events. She placed fourth in the 3000-meter run with a season best time of 12:53.45. Berry placed fifth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 22:13.29.
Pollard also earned the Wildcats points in the 200-meter run, placing seventh overall with a season-best time of 28.25 seconds.
In the field events, Faith Hopgood finished seventh overall in the weight throw with a career-best throw of 44 feet, 9 3/4 inches. That mark is the fourth highest mark in school history.
The Wildcats are scheduled to to compete next weekend at the Grinnell Invitational in Grinnell, Iowa. The first events are slated to begin at 10 a.m.
