Hopgood, Carmack Lead Wildcats to 4th Place Finish at Luther

The Culver-Stockton College women's track and field team placed fourth with 54 points at the Luther All-American Invitational at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, Saturday. Luther won the event with 165 team points.

The Wildcats were led by Faith Hopgood in the field events and Malia Carmack and Emma Berry in the running events.

Hopgood set a personal best in the weight throw and finished second overall with a throw of 48 feet, 10 inches. Hopgood also did well in the shop put, hurling a throw of 34 feet, 7 1/2 inches to place sixth overall.

In the running events, Carmack registered a second and a third place finish in the 300-meter and the 600-meter run, respectively. Carmack posted a time of 44.80 to place second in the 300 while setting a personal best time of 1:49.18 and placing third in the 600. Erin Peppler placed sixth in the 600 with a time of 1:51.80

Berry was superb in the distance races, finishing 3rd in the 3000-meter run and 6th in the 2000-meter steeplechase. In the 3000, Berry garnered a time of 12:35.54, while in the 2000 steeple she recorded a time of 8:26.0.

In other events, Kinlie Judd returned to action and posted a second place finish in the pole vault with a leap of 8 feet, 11 1/2 inches. In the 4x400 relay, the Wildcat team finished fifth overall with a time of 4:41.01.

The Wildcats are scheduled to compete next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 13-14, in the Darren Young Classic at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa,
