Women's Track Opens Outdoor Season at CMU Open

The Culver-Stockton College women's track and field team opened its outdoor season with by breaking two school records and registering 15 top eight finishes during the Central Methodist Open in Fayette, Mo., Saturday afternoon.

Delaney Straus and Faith Younce were in the middle of the Wildcat successes with Straus finishing fourth or better in four events, including a pair victories, while Younce set one school record and set a personal best in a second event.

Straus finished first in the javelin throw and the triple jump, placed second in the 400-meter hurdles, and fourth in the 100-meter hurdles. 

In the javelin throw, Straus hurled the spear 117 feet, 2 inches, while in the triple jump she recorded a winning mark of 36 feet, 5 3/4 inches. In the track events, Straus garnered a time of 1:06.79 in the 400 hurdles and 16.13 seconds in the 100 hurdles.

Meanwhile, Younce destroyed her own 3000-meter run mark with a time of 11:51.21, eclipsing the mark she set one year ago by nearly 30 seconds. Younce also set a personal mark in the 1,500-meter run, placing fifth overall with a time of 5:31.51.

Donyall Sharp welcomed the outdoor season with a new school record in the hammer throw, tossing the ball 143 feet, six inches, placing second overall.

In other events, Malia Carmack and Lexi Clark finished third and fourth overall, respectively, in the 800-meter run. Carmack finished in a time of 2:37.03 while Clark garnered a mark of 2:39.62.

C-SC also recorded a pair of third place finishes in the relays. The Wildcats finished third in the 4x400 relay with a time of 5:02.50, while the 4x800 relay team finished third in a time of 10:30.30.

The Wildcats are scheduled to participate in the Grand View University Relays next Saturday, March 22, in Des Moines, Iowa.
