Straus Earns Heart's First Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week Honor
Culver-Stockton College junior Delaney Straus (Philadelphia, Mo. / Marion County HS) has named the first Heart of America Athletic Conference Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for her performance at the season-opening Central Methodist Open March 15.
Straus competed in six total events, including three field events, during the opening weekend. Straus won the javelin throw and the triple jump while finishing 10th in the high jump.
In the javelin throw, Straus hurled the spear 117 feet, 2 inches, which is the second best mark in school history and the best in the Heart this season. In the triple jump, Straus leaped 36 feet, 5 ¾ inches, which is also the Heart's best mark and the fourth-highest mark in the NAIA.
The Wildcats are scheduled to perform this Saturday at the Grand View Relays at Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa. The first events are slated to begin at 11 a.m.
