Women's Track Wins Viking Relays; Younce Hits Qualifying Mark in Race Walk
The Culver-Stockton College women's track and field team easily captured the Grand View Vikings Relays Saturday afternoon at Duke William s Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Wildcats registered 204 team points to outdistance second place Grand View, which recorded 98 team points.
C-SC captured five events with Faith Younce and Delaney Straus garnering wins in two events each.
Younce won the 5000-meter race walk and set a school record in the process with a time of 27:44.34. That mark is also within the provisional qualifying standard for the NAIA Outdoor Championships in May.
Younce also claimed the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 13:15.88 and finished fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 22:21.20.
Emma Berry also record top three finishes in the 3000 steeplechase and the 5000. Berry placed second in the steeplechase with a personal best time of 13:24.42, and was third in the 5000 with a time of 21:50.03.
Meanwhile, Straus was claiming titles in two field events, the long jump and triple jump, while also competing in several track events.
Straus won the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 7 inches, and the triple jump with a mark of 35 feet, 1 inch. Straus also finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16 seconds flat, and second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:10.71.
In other field events, Kinlie Judd won the pole vault with a jump of 9 feet, 2 1/2 inches, and placed third in the high jump with a mark of 4 feet, 6 1/4 inches.
The Wildcats are scheduled to compete in the Central Methodist Invitational next Friday and Saturday, March 28-29, in Fayette, Mo.
