Straus currently 14th after First Day of Heptathlon

Culver-Stockton College junior Delaney Straus had a busy day on the first day of the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind.

Straus competed in the first four events of the heptathlon an event she earned All-America honors in last season, as well as the preliminaries of the 400-meter hurdles.

Straus finished the first day of the heptathlon competition in 14th place with 2,571 total points. She is 63 points out of 13th place and 227 points out of eighth place, which would earn her All-America honors for the second straight year.

Straus' best finish on day one came in the shot put where she finished eighth among the 16 competitors with a a throw of 32 feet, 10 inches. She earned her high point total in the two running events, garnering 756 points in the 100 hurdles  with a time of 15.66 seconds, and 730 points in the 200 with a time of 26.78 seconds.

Straus has three events remaining on Thursday beginning with the long jump at 10 a.m. CDT. That will be followed by the javelin throw and the 800-meter run.

In addition to the heptathlon, Straus also competed in the 400 hurdles and placed 18th in the preliminaries with a time of 1:03.98. That time was not fast enough to make the final on Friday.
