Women's Track and Field Compete at Mustang Distance Carnival and Open

The Culver-Stockton women's track and field team competed in the Mustang Distance Carnival and Open at Mount Mercy University in Friday and Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Top performances for the Wildcats included Malia Carmack finishing third and fourth in the 1,500-meter run and the 3000-meter steeplechase, respectively. Carmack end up third in the 1500 with a time of 5:36.07, and fourth in the steeplechase with a time of 12:59.04.

In addition to Carmack, Erin Peppler and Emma Berry also secured top eight finishes in those two events. Peppler placed fifth in the 1500 in a time of 5:44.47 while Berry played seventh with a time of 5:46.60.

In the steeple, Peppler placed fifth with a personal best time of 13:12.23 while Berry set a season-best time of 13:13.23, good for a sixth place finish.

Abagail Mooney also recorded a pair of top five finishes in two events and registered a personal best in another during the weekend.

Mooney finished third in the pole vault with a height of 9 feet, 1 1/2 inches, and fifth in the high jump with a height of 4 feet, 9 3/4 inches. Monday also set a personal best time in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.42, good for 11th place overall.

In addition, Faith Hopgood tallied a ninth place finish in the discus throw, hitting a mark of 118 feet, 1 inch.

The Wildcats are scheduled to compete in their own Wildcat Invitational next Saturday, April 18, at Richeson Track inside Ellison Poulton Stadium. The first events are scheduled to begin at 10 p.m.
