Sophomore Abagail Mooney (Silex, Mo. / Silex HS) set a personal best in the heptathlon during the opening two days of the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, Wednesday and Thursday.

Mooney recorded 3,168 total points over the seven events to finish 14th among the 18 student-athletes that started the competition. That point total outdistanced her previous best of 3,096 at the Central Methodist Invitational April 2-3.

During the competition Mooney also set personal best marks in the shot put and the javelin throw. She hit a mark of 27 feet, 6 inches in the shot put, and a mark of 80 feet, 5 inches in the javelin throw.

In addition to Mooney, the women's team also had the 4x800 relay team compete and it finished 16th overall in a time of 10:02.95, breaking the school record of 10:12.89 set last year at the Heart Championships. Members of the team were Malia Carmack, Samatha Stone, Erin Pepler and Emma Berry.

The rest of the Wildcat track and field team are slated to participate in the Vikings Classic at Grand View University on Friday, April 24. That meet is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
